On May 27, the Day of Russian Entrepreneurship, HSE University’s Cultural Centre hosted HSE Business Club, an annual student entrepreneurial forum. Three years ago, the HSE Business Club initiative group opened the forum as a platform for entrepreneurs to exchange experiences. Now it is the largest student business forum in the CIS. This year, a record number of 1,900 guests registered for the event.
HSE University Opens Representative Office at ITS University in Indonesia
HSE University-St Petersburg has opened a representative office at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia. The corresponding agreements were reached during a working trip by a delegation headed by HSE University-St Petersburg Director Anna Tyshetskaya.
‘People Here Have Special Energy’: HSE University Faculty of Economic Sciences Celebrates Its 31st Birthday
The traditional EconomFest gathered students, staff, applicants, and friends of the Faculty of Economic Sciences in the HSE University building on Pokrovsky Bulvar. The event programme featured tours, contests, and treats alongside anti-lectures, networking, and congratulations from the faculty’s administration. The students shared extracurricular life tips with school children, and alumni looked for new colleagues among senior students.
‘Political Science Is a Lifestyle and Way of Thinking’
The English-taught Master's programme 'Comparative Politics of Eurasia' at the HSE Campus in St Petersburg trains specialists in the internal and external politics of post-Soviet countries. Students learn how to combine qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis with theoretical approaches from various social sciences. The programme has three educational tracks: one in research and two applied ones. Andrey Starodubtsev, Academic Supervisor of the programme, explains which subjects students will learn and where they will be able to undertake internships.
Rediscovering Russia Expedition Submissions Open until June 15th
The Rediscovering Russia project invites universities, commercial and non-profit organisations to apply to organise and conduct student expeditions in 2023. Candidates can apply until June 15th, and the winning expeditions will receive financial and organisational support.
Russian Scientists Present New Application for Nanophotonic Sensor
A joint research team from HSE, Skoltech, MPGU and MISIS has developed a compact sensor for biochemical analysis, opening up a new frontier in the development of the ‘lab-on-a-chip’. Using bovine serum albumin film as an example, the researchers proved that the chip surface can be adapted for selective analysis of multicomponent solutions. Along with enabling accurate blood tests with only 3 to 5 microliters of blood, the chip will help doctors to detect specific disease markers. The study was published in Analytical Chemistry.

Why do international students at HSE University decide to pursue a career in academia? What fields in economics are relevant to PhD students? Richard Asiamah from Ghana and Alesya Bukreeva from Uzbekistan are current master’s students at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, but have already received scholarships from the faculty to continue their studies as doctoral students at the university. Fedor Shvets came to Russia from Kazakhstan, graduated from the Bachelor’s programme in Sociology and Social Informatics at HSE University in St Petersburg, and is currently studying for his Master’s degree in Population and Development at HSE University in Moscow. Faculty of Urban and Regional Development Develops a Draft of a New Transport Scheme of Obninsk
On May 3rd, a briefing and presentation session of a project for the development of the city's transport scheme took place in the Obninsk administration. This large-scale project has been implemented by staff from the Institute of Transport Economics and Transport Policy Studies of the HSE Faculty of Urban and Regional Development.

HSE University’s Department of Innovation Management held an Open Day for the Master’s programme in Corporate Research, Development and Innovation Management, another enrolment for which will take place this year. Unlike traditional open days, where teachers and supervisors give information about programmes, this time the applicants talked to first- and second-year students.
